TRUMP JUST PUT THE FEAR IN EVERY CONGRESSMAN WITH 1 EPIC PROMISE TO AMERICA
CONSERVATIVE TRIBUNE BLOG ^ | AUGUST 19, 2016 AT 1:45PM | BY: WILMOT PROVISO

For many establishment congressmen of both parties, being elected isn’t a chance to make a difference in the political life of America. It’s a sinecure that allows them to become fat off of special interest money and speaking fees.

Americans of all stripes are frustrated with this attitude, which is part of the reason why anti-establishment Donald Trump got the Republican nomination.

Now, Trump has made a huge move to end congressional sinecures and the politicos who occupy them. According to Associated Press, Trump told an audience in North Carolina that he would look into term limits for Congress if he were elected president.

Trump made the remarks Thursday afternoon while speaking before a group of local law enforcement officers in the swing state. A questioner asked the Republican nominee about it and said he wanted to “get these bums out.”

Trump gave him plenty to look forward to. He told the audience member that, “(w)e’re going to take a very serious look” at establishing term limits.

While it would take a constitutional amendment to accomplish, make no mistake — establishing term limits would arguably be the biggest accomplishment of any president since World War II.

Part of the mess we’re in as a country — especially in terms of debt, deficit and political pusillanimity — has to do with establishment politicians who hang around Washington for half a century or more.

One rarely (if ever) does this because they’re fighting for their constituents. They’re addicted to power and all that comes with it. This power, unfortunately, is often wielded at our expense, particularly when it comes to government spending.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe the executive branch has oversight with regards to Civil Service. Either way, that would be a game changer.

Too many civil servants have forgotten who employs them. We have become a nation of serfs with bureaucrats lording over the people. This soft tyranny has eaten away at the soul of the country long enough.

I totally agree with this term limit ruling change for Congress.

We have people who have become so entrenched in their position, they are impossible to deal with.

And, their longevity DOES NOT IMPROVE THEIR ABILITY TO SERVE THEIR CONSTITUENTS .. ON THE CONTRARY .. THEY SEEM TO GET WORSE WITH TIME.

How about 1 term of 7 years in the Senate
How about 1 term of 3 years in the House

Anybody else have an idea ..????

And prohibit any term-limited member of Congress from taking any work, even ceremonial, with any entity, firm, lobbying concern having business before Congress, for life.

Simply apply this language to the house and senate:
-
Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution
Section 1.
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,
and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once...

I suppose you would want the Supreme Court to decide this?

What I want is immaterial. But that issue may end up in the Supreme Court.

Congress will never rein in the bureaucracy as long as their re-election over and over again requires that they don’t stick their neck out and don’t make waves. IF you don’t have to worry about a re-election because you are term limiting out, then why not actually DO what’s right for America because it really won’t affect you in any negative way. I think, with the right people, this will be a net positive in no time.

Exactly! Before I really thought about it, I used to be a proponent of term limits too, but even though there are many lifers in congress who blatently abuse their position, the root of the problem is not term limits. I agree that the bureaucrats, all the massive bureaucracies, and many, if not most, of the relationships congresscritters have with them, are indeed a much larger problem. Our nation’s founders couldn’t possibly imagine how massive, powerful, and expensive some of these bureaucracies have become. It truly is mind boggling!

So how do propose to "trim the hedges" unless you first remove their powerful guardians?

We call that a Sunset Review here in Texas -— we might want to consider the same process Nationally.

Term limits? That isn't what terrifies them. What really terrifies them is investigating them for Insider Trading.

see what term limits do just look at the California legislature. Insanity to put it lightly.

So you're suggesting term limits are a bad thing? Is the rest of the country supposed to use CA as a benchmark? Really? Why am I not surprised you made that comment?

That might work .. I like that idea.

However, I would also like to see a tighter reign on the Congress people who stay behind in DC after their terms. The idea was that they had to go back home and LIVE under the laws they had created.

Staying in DC defeats that purpose.

People have no effective representation now. This is not going to get any better. Term limits reduce the amount that the politicians can steal during their time in office.

How about election day after tax day?

Printing parts of constitution on the back of the money.

Those seem easy

Help me out. The POTUS runs the agencies. He can fire a certain employees. Congress only funds the agencies. Am I right?

I’ve been wanting term limits forever. I truly think this one move will take away the draw that corruption offers the power hungry and money hungry people.
