Bruna Castro-Ruiz, 28, says she saw part of what unfolded early Sunday at a gas station in Rio, as Lochte and his teammates headed back to the Olympic village. (She says she has already spoken to police about what she saw.) Lochte has said the foursome was robbed at gunpoint after stopping at the gas station on the taxi ride home an account he has changed slightly from earlier versions given to media. But local police later told PEOPLE that one of the swimmers in the group was seen on security video allegedly damaging a bathroom at the gas station, and that the swimmers gave over their wallets as payment for the incident.

You have so far demonstrated only one maybe lie, and a trivial one even at that.
You are hanging a lot of weight on very small nail.
About the important essentials, Lochte appears to have accurately described what happened.
No one of the others claim the gun was pointed at them. Soooo maybe it was him in the car that the gun was pointed at. Was it cocked? No proof it was not.
The video tape and news account by ABC News now say that the account given by the swimmers may be substantially correct
But it really no longer matters does it? They pay the fine, say they are sorry, move on. People not interested in truth anymore, are they?
I saw a picture of the bathroom door on a news site. It looks like it has suffered from years of abuse and neglect. It’s possible it was used as an excuse to extract money from rich Americans.
No. My distrust of Lochte is him getting caught in a multitude of lies.
“I am not familiar with this statement from him. Do you have a source that he said he was “sideswiped”?
Billy Bush in interview with Matt Lauer
“Having a cooked gun put to his forehead I have no doubt that part is absolutely true.”
Lochte said that part was absolutely NOT true.
“The timeline What deviation of the timeline do you characterize as a “lie”?”
He said he returned at about 4 AM. Videos show them returning at close to 7 AM.
“So far you’ve got a pretty weak anchor on which to support the assertion that the athletes are lying.”
I think my case has been made.
Sorry, i'm not dressed for church.
This whole situation has been blown out of proportion by the Brazilian authorities who are desperate to redirect all of the bad press they have received over the Olympics fiasco.
They see the U.S. swim as their salvation. They will continue to paint them as “Ugly Americans” until the bad press for Rio stops.
Lochte is innocent, those vehemently against him sound like Cruz supporters to me, they just can’t give it up, no matter what, witnesses, the video, it all points to the swimmers telling the truth.
so go on explaining to him the 'multitude of lies'. I'll continue reading it with interest.
Meantime, don't forget:
Everything you (think you) know about Lochte is filtered by Big Media, the Brazilian Government, Brazilian thugs, and questionable video.
“Hmmm . . . video shows a gun pointed to someone’s forehead”
Lochte said that his statement about the gun put to his forehead was not true.
Care to reference which video and give a timestamp for the event Lochte said didn’t happen?
So you believe him about this, (Not having a gun pointed at his head when the video shows him with his hands up) but he's absolutely lying about being "sideswiped" and about what time he says he got in after a night of drinking?
Like I said, i'm not dressed for church.
“Lochte is innocent”
Then why did he lie on national TV?
“So you believe him about this, (Not having a gun pointed at his head when the video shows him with his hands up) but he’s absolutely lying about being “sideswiped” and about what time he says he got in after a night of drinking? “
When one makes directly conflicting statements then one is false. No matter which one you disbelieve or believe one fact is certain. He lied.
I think they've created worse press by inadvertently portraying themselves as having coerced confessions to save face.
They look more like a Banana Republic than they would had they just simply said "In a city of 6 million, sometimes you get a robbery."
Inviting scrutiny of their claims has backfired on them in my perspective.
Oh stop. I was/am a Cruz supporter who is now supporting Trump. You should not characterize people by who they thought was the better candidate in a primary.
I think the Athletes told a very close approximation of what actually happened from their perspective, and I think the Brazilian authorities over reacted and went into panic mode coverup and coercion.
The evidence so far appears to support the claims made by the athletes.
You do realize that the woman witness linked at the top of this thread said a gun was indeed pointed at them.
She continues, "Then the manager went to call the police and the security guard held a gun to keep them there until the police arrived, and one of the men said you can have your f--ing money and they took out their wallets and gave them money. They got back into the taxi and went away, and the police didn't get there until later."

The two stories are actually quite similar. Whether the restroom was already damaged (VERY likely, even if the swimmers made it worse) or not, and whether the swimmers did more damage either intentionally or because things just fell down when touched, it sounds like the same incident described from very different perspectives of self-interest.
Whether a uniformed cop held a gun to their heads and demanded money in a robbery or a uniformed security guard drew his gun and demanded payment for the damage from vandalism is really a subtle point. I’d like to see the video, but it’s easy to see how a drunken athlete could experience the Brazilian version of events and report the other version. It’s also easy to see how the classic South American robbery presented to the victim as a fine/fee could then be presented to the public under the same pretense.
We all know that no matter what actually happened, Obama’s government would side with anyone blaming Americans. Unless I see a video with the athletes doing significant damage, I will file this along with many other stories where I have no idea what really happened. However, I have no intention of visiting Brazil or any other country where a private security guard can demand money after claiming vandalism, or where a uniformed cop commits armed robbery and gets away with it. Either way, Brazil looks as bad as we already knew it was.
When an incompetent third world banana republic is holding one of your team mates hostage, you say whatever you need to say to help him get released.
If Brazil demands he recant (the implied threat is that it won't go well for the team mate if he doesn't) his choice is to recant or be faced with the potential incarceration of his team mate.
I would F***ing say anything that ignorant, backward, corrupt, lying third world sh*t-hole demanded I say to get my team mate out of their clutches.
“You do realize that the woman witness linked at the top of this thread said a gun was indeed pointed at them. “
The Rio police chief said that yesterday.
Obviously, you did not comprehend my post.
Lochte said a gun was cocked and put to his forehead.
Lochte said that no gun was cocked and put to his forehead.
One is a lie.
“When an incompetent third world banana republic is holding one of your team mates hostage, you say whatever you need to say to help him get released. “
hmmm. He recanted his story about being pulled over when he realized the videos showed him lying.
