Bruna Castro-Ruiz, 28, says she saw part of what unfolded early Sunday at a gas station in Rio, as Lochte and his teammates headed back to the Olympic village. (She says she has already spoken to police about what she saw.) Lochte has said the foursome was robbed at gunpoint after stopping at the gas station on the taxi ride home an account he has changed slightly from earlier versions given to media. But local police later told PEOPLE that one of the swimmers in the group was seen on security video allegedly damaging a bathroom at the gas station, and that the swimmers gave over their wallets as payment for the incident.

The video clearly shows a gun was pointed at someone in the car
I will give you that in his first account, he stated that they were "pulled over" in the car. In subsequent account of the event, exactly what did Lochte lie about?
Am pretty sure if you had a gun held to your head for 3 minutes by someone NOT in uniform and then told to get out of the car and told to get on the ground and forced to hand over money even you may not get all the facts correct.
This is exactly what some see this as . . . a third world pit hole playing their usual games also
You people might find this further information interesting.
If you watch the time clock on the video closely, it jumps a few times - once it jumped a full minute. So parts of the tape are missing.
Did the gas station owner edit the tape?
Did the police edit the tape?
And people have stated they have seen video of the swimmers doing the vandalism - I must be slow, because I can’t find it.
I’m not prepared to condemn Lochte until the un-edited video is released.
You're hanging your ten-gallon hat on the word of known pathological liars. That's your call.
I'm not willing to do that.
To what lie are you referring?
To what lie are you referring?
He lied about:
Being sides wiped
Having a cooked gun put to his forehead
The timeline
See 28
You ducked my direct question.
The woman witness at the top of this thread says they were inside the Taxi and forced to get out. Being drunk to the degree they were, it is not unreasonable to believe they may have thought they had been "pulled over" when they were forced to get out of the cab.
Details can get kind of fuzzy when you've been drinking all night.
It is a trivial point if in fact it was a deliberate lie, but as it serves no real purpose in making a distinction about being "pulled over" to the significant facts of the case, I'll give them a drunken pass on that specific point.
The essential components of the case are demonstrated by the evidence that the Brazilian police have so far provided. They have yet to provide any evidence (beyond a ripped down poster) for vandalism.
One would think that they would put their stronger evidence for vandalism out there first... if they actually have any.
A ripped down poster? Is that the best you can prove?
How 'bout you? Do you trust Big Media? Do you trust the Brazilian Government? Do you trust a bunch of "private security" thugs in Brazil?
How 'bout it, Tex?
Between the Brazilian official corruption, complicit media, anti-Americanism, and manipulated video, Brazil is desperate to not have one more blemish on what was already considered a sloppy joke as far as hosting Olympics are concerned.
Furthermore, frankly, I believe there is a racial bias an component here. White fratboy types and this incident provided a politically convenient counter-balance to the BLM riots in Milwaukee.
I didn’t challenge your points.
The Rio Police screwed-up
Once the swimmers were suspected of destroying that bathroom, the police should have arrested the American swimmers and thrown them in the Rio Jail.
I am not familiar with this statement from him. Do you have a source that he said he was "sideswiped"?
But I will point out that my earlier point holds. A man that has been drinking all night may not realize that he hasn't been "pulled over" when he is forced to get out of a cab he is in. Perhaps someone banging on their cab windows could have been interpreted by his "drunk @$$ as being "sideswiped."
Having a cooked gun put to his forehead
I have no doubt that part is absolutely true. The video show them on the ground with their hands up, and the woman witness linked in this thread says that happened.
The timeline
What deviation of the timeline do you characterize as a "lie"?
So far you've got a pretty weak anchor on which to support the assertion that the athletes are lying.
A more credible position is that drunk people are fuzzy and their narrative of what happened tends to reflect their own fuzziness.
Think about that for a while.
No. My distrust of Lochte is him getting caught in a multitude of lies.
Think about it for a while.
Except for the fact that so far no evidence (other than someone ripping down a poster) has been presented so far to indicate that the bathroom was "destroyed."
Furthermore, drunken vandalism does not warrant the pointing of a presumably loaded gun at someone and eliciting the relinquishment of money.
The Brazilian police have released a video, which strangely does not show a damaged bathroom or any evidence of vandalism beyond ripping down a poster.
If they are going to allege vandalism (which is no justification for pointing a gun at someone) then they should establish that vandalism actually occurred.
