Check out the “regret” statements at 48:30 and following.
The crowd reaction tells the story.
No apology and no more will be said.
It is now “old news”, and “it is time to move on”.
The speech was the best of Trump’s campaign.
And he has had a string of great speeches recently.
He laid out the Trump Doctrine, domestic and foreign.
He previously explained and justified (or sincerely regretted, as in the Heidi Cruz retweet) every issue, You are right, no more need be said. All of that crap is a distraction, and the press is all about distracting from the relevant facts and issues.
I see Trump in the process of transforming his presentation to the public, in order to cement a "this man is President Trump" image in the public's mind. President Trump is the serious, deliberate, considerate and tough negotiator. The bombast and ridicule will subside over time, and very naturally. It is vital that the people see Trump as genuine, not an image of Conway, not an image of Bannon, but Trump - let Trump be Trump.
Most of us have a public persona that differs from the private one - or a work persona that differs from the party persona, and so on. Trump in no different. He has a public persona. He's been leveraging it. The public needs to see his business persona, as he intends to apply it to the job he will hold, president of the US.
