ALTHOUGH THE CHARITY founded by former President Bill Clinton has done admirable work over the last 15 years, the Clinton Foundation is also clearly a liability for Hillary Clinton as she seeks the presidency. The once-and-maybe-future first family will have plenty to keep them busy next year if Hillary Clinton defeats Donald Trump in November. The foundation should remove a political — and actual — distraction and stop accepting funding. If Clinton is elected, the foundation should be shut down.
Since its founding, the foundation has supported relief in Haiti, global health, and other good causes. It also provided posts or paychecks for some members of the Clinton political team, like Cheryl Mills, Douglas Band, and Huma Abedin, and afforded the former president a platform and travel budget. Many of the foundation’s donations come from overseas, including from foreign governments with troubling human rights records.
The inherent conflict of interest was obvious when Hillary Clinton became secretary of state in 2009. She promised to maintain a separation between her official work and the foundation, but recently released emails written by staffers during her State Department tenure make clear that the supposed partition was far from impregnable. That was bad enough at State; if the Clinton Foundation continues to cash checks from foreign governments and other individuals seeking to ingratiate themselves with a President Hillary Clinton, it would be unacceptable.

The Clintons should move now to end donations to the foundation, and make plans to shut it down in November. Even if they’ve done nothing illegal, the foundation will always look too much like a conflict of interest for comfort.

No - this is their way of “dealing with the issue” even though they are actually calling for nothing of substance to be done...and a chance to try and sweep it under a rug.
I believe the Boston Globe is hoping that if Hillary says she’s closing down the Foundation .. IT WILL HELP TO GET HER ELECTED.
But, if Hillary is not in the Govt., what influence does she have to peddle. She would have to start some sort of “Charity” in order to skirt the law.
They live by the adage, “Charity begins at home” only in their case it ends there, too.
Charity navigator, the gold standard in evaluating charities, rates Clinton charities badly. They used only 10% on actual charitable work.
Hey, Boston Globe, how about doing a story on the ongoing demonstrations by NYC Haitians asking where all the money donated to the Clinton Foundation for Haiti went?
Clinton Foundation should be shut down as a criminal enterprise and many individuals jailed.
If that’s not going to happen, why would they shut it down? It’s giving them a great lifestyle and lets them avoid uncomfortable things like direct bribe payments to Bill, taxes, and eventually even the death tax that would happen if bribes were paid directly to them instead of the foundation.
If she becomes president the foundation will be even more important. Bill can collect $million bribes with a few speeches. But when she can charge 10s of $millions for favors even CNN will be forced to question the fees Bill would get to collect that sum with speeches.

Off topic, but why no outcry over the Clinton’s tax returns? They showed that the Clintons took a $1,000,000 tax deduction for “charitable contributions” to their own “charitable” foundation. Apparently legal, but is it ethical and above board???
