Do some research on private prisons and then let me know if you still think they are a good idea.

They need to stop any decisions until we make our presidential decision.

When capitalism and a “justice system” meet, the results can be uneasy. Cf the brouhaha going on right now in Rio.

Another interesting question: Billions of dollars of state/county/municipal tax free bonds were issued to finance the building of these facilities. They are governed by not only their State Prison laws, but also their various state securities commissions.

If I were a bond holder of "jail bonds", I'd be really nervous if I had federal prisoners there. The federal government pays all types of prisons to temporarily house them until they can make it into a true Federal BOP prison.

....it isn't going to matter when Obama pardons all black federal prisoners though on 19 JAN 2017 as a final F.U. to America.

YOu are about to be culturally enlighted folks:

I hate agreeing with zero, but this is actually good news. Prisons as a profit center are a really, really bad idea.

One world, one government, one prison.

This could be something Trump could agree on, cost him little in political and national interest, and reach people who would otherwise not read anything Trump has to say.

As a retired correctional officer in a state prison, I remember being told that the over-whelming number of prisoner lawsuits against the state was the reason to privatize.

Increase our exports. Cut a lease deal with Mexico.

Bet they could house our prisoners for 15 cents on the Dollar.

Nice crime deterrent too.

I hate the CCA; they have vested interest in more prisons, more “attendees”; that is inherently evil akin to texts in Isaiah and Amos and others.

That said, taking these over, perhaps like Venezuela took over corporations? That is illegal.

This will also hit the Clintons in the pocketbook; look how the CCA lobbyists have worked with the clinton foundation.

Interesting.

Somebody fell behind on their donations to OFA, Obama’s version of the Clinton Foundation.

I’m okay with this in theory. If it’s a business, it needs to make money. This model makes money through mass incarceration.

It’s time to stop putting so many in jail for health issues like drug use. It’s cramming these prisons and creating a “madrasa” of sorts for criminal education — thus perpetuating the business model.

We are inheritors of the struggles and experiments Britain went through before and after we departed the Empire with how to deal with a large criminal sub-class. They tried execution by hanging on a fairly mass scale, indentured “transportation” to remote wild colonies, floggings, humiliation and sometimes death dealt out by the public in a pillory, caning with a birch rod. The list is almost endless. Finally, they and we landed on incarceration and “reform” as the humane method. Pity it doesn’t work any better than the “inhumane” methods. I will tell you this ... Saudi Arabia and Singapore use rods, nooses, beheading swords, and canes and both places are almost crime free.

Actually, the meaning is even deeper than that.

This means that the LEFT cannot abide the “public sector” to provide a better prison setting than the government.

Obama has his mind on erasing all public sector authority in the area of law enforcement. Thus, this includes their attempt to FEDERALIZE all police units. Which really means, they’re going to try to neuter as many police units as they can .. so their constituents believe they can run wild and not be held accountable .. and even if they do get caught, the FEDS will just put them in a prison whereby they can continue their lifestyle.

Can’t abide a prison where people have classes; standards of cleanliness; proper dress; and are encouraged to change .. NOT continue their lifestyle that got them into prison in the first place.

And .. I’m betting one of the main reasons for the public sector prisons is to allow ministries into the prison. This is a big issue .. because today .. only ISLAM is allowed to be taught.

ANY of the major decisions 0dunga makes ‘last minute’ before he leaves office are NOT BENEFICIAL TO LAW AND ORDER, OR AMERICA IN GENERAL.

Good! We should never privatize any function that should not be expanded. We need to reduce K st lobby and payouts to crooked politicians so as to create laws for more prisons. We need to enforce existing laws but not create incentives for more prisons so that CEOS and shareholders can make more money.

It is like privatizing traffic law enforcement with speed and red light cameras. It only incentivizes them to bend the laws with camera placement to make more money at public expense and does nothing for public safety..
