Russia Keeps Up Airstrikes on Syria From Iran
Wall Street "Journal" ^ | August 18, 2016 | Nathan Hodge and Alan Cullison

The Russian military said Wednesday it launched a second round of airstrikes in Syria from a base in western Iran, as top officials rejected a U.S. contention that the assaults could violate a United Nations resolution.

The second day of strikes extends a new phase in Moscow’s air campaign, suggesting it plans to keep up its strong support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The U.S., which wants Mr. Assad out, has expressed concerns about Moscow and Tehran’s stepped-up military coordination.

Su-34 tactical bombers took off from an air base in Hamedan, Iran, to strike Islamic State targets in the vicinity of Deir Ezzour, Russia’s Defense Ministry said. The ministry said the strike destroyed two command posts and killed more than 150 militants, claims that couldn’t be immediately or independently verified.

Apparently the Obama supported Islamic terrorists aren't doing so well, and the UN is concerned.

If they are using that strip, and that is all it is, I’m not sure that the reason is for what the article says. There is virtually nothing there to support the munitions storage needed to mount a large campaign as the Ruskies are waging. The strip is long enough at about 12,000 ft. but not much there besides a paved tarmac at the western end. There is a fenced compound south of the eastern end that looks relatively new with buildings all of the same constriction with what looks like 6 large LP tanks, but absolutely no activity or vehicles in the Google Earth image.

You simply do not understand the dynamics of the Current Regime here in the territory once known as “the United States of America”.

The objective was to “fundamentally transform” the meaning and the intent of “manifest destiny” to conform to the Islamic ideal of a world of submissive humanity that knows and accepts the inherent goodness of the “Religion of Peace”. Because there are so many heretics, they must necessarily be subdued, subjugated or simply executed until that level is reached. Only then shall peace prevail.

This may take a while.

But first, by reducing and degrading that territory once known as “the United States of America” so it no longer poses a threat to the Worldwide Caliphate, and by converting all of Europe to Moslem territory, by the establishment of mosques and establishing Shari’ah law as the only accepted legal code so that region becomes a launch point to press eastward through the Russian Federation and all the way to China, the Worldwide Caliphate becomes a reality.

The Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut is just doing his part, doncha see. Really a higher partiotism than merely pledging allegiance to the United States of America, which has been consigned to the dumpster of history.

I wish this was sarcasm.

It is sad the humanity’s best chance at stopping the madness that is Islam will probably be a coalition of Russia, China and India.

This closeness Russia has with Iran makes it improbable that Trump and Putin can have a good relationship.

Obama has been the administration of the expansion of our enemies. Russia to mideast and Crimea and Ukrain, China to the South China Sea with the belligerent act of fabricating territorial waters.

Trump will inherit that moment on the part of our enemies and it’s going to be difficult to stop that.

If the Russkies have operational bases in Syria and Iran, it means they're protecting the Iranian missile silos and underground bunkers from an Israeli-Sunni coalition strike.

This means that with Soviet, oops, I mean Russian support, the West cannot stop Iran from achieving launching a MIRV on Israel, Saudi Arabia and eventually, the US.

Obama promised Iran would not get the bomb - now, thanks to his ineptitude or assistance, they will get it. The ONLY thing now standing in the way of Russian-Iranian-N. Korean hegemony in the world is...tiny Israel.

I believe that Google sat imagery is dated. As for how the Russians are able to mass munitions for the strikes in Syria, it’s quite easy. Expeditionary forces that support deployed aircraft squadrons are very capable of quickly setting up structures and staging areas for ordnance storage.

The U.S., which wants Mr. Assad out,
*********************

It’s really the Gulf states and Saudi Arabia that want Assad out. They want to build a pipeline to Europe and Assad is in the way.
Russia does not want the competition so they will prop up Assad.
The U.S. is doing the bidding of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.

“So why IS the USA (bombed by al Qaeda)
giving weapons and CIA help to al Qaeda?”

A combination of factors. Saudi (and Qatari) influence. Geopolitics.

The US is concerned about Iranian influence in Iraq and the establishment of an Iranian “crescent” encompassing Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, as well as Iran. (This is so in spite of the deal Obama made with Iran). The Saudis are similarly adamantly opposed to the expansion of Iranian influence.

Then, of course, the Saudis and Qataris want their pipeline through Syria.

Also, the US would like to curtail Russian influence in the Middle East and would like to use Islamic fanatics to weaken Russia’s allies.

So, the US, Saudis, Qataris see the Islamist fighters as a useful tool. They believe, as always, that they can control them.

One positive about Trump is that he has experience at dealing with all kinds of people, and Russians are all kinds of people.

As did the Communists that Carter supported in taking Iran from the Shah.

10-4-2015.

The point was about the logistical support mechanisms necessary to mount such a campaign. There is nothing of any significant infrastructure, even hangars to support such a campaign. It is just a single strip with a parking lot at one end.
