Actually, Teddy was a progressive and a participant in the process of unwinding America. In his era, progressives got the income tax, direct election of senators and the right of women to vote, all important to where we are today. When Taft turned out to be conservative instead of a progressive Republican, Teddy formed a third party and ran against him (reminiscent of the nevertrumpers), which gave us Woodrow Wilson and progressive Democrat rule. Teddy's wing lives on in the GOPe.

In his era, you could be progressive and still nationalist. Progressivism eventually led to globalism, but it took time. Roosevelt got the ball rolling.

I knew all this. I have since knowing, had a love-hate feeling towards Teddy. He was an a rugged individual and believed in Americans being such. He wanted immigrants to be Americanized.

He also did what you said.

He definitely was a complicated person.

Stop believing the bilge that the insane Glenn spouts!

Woodrow Wilson gave us the FEDERAL INCOME TAX; NOT T.R.!

Teddy was NOT a "progressive" in the way you are insinuating and though he did form the BULL MOOSE PARTY, it wasn't why Wilson won, nor was it anything at all like the #NEVERTRUMP GOPEers of today!

Instead of getting my knowledge of T.R. from lefty propaganda and/or the beyond STUPID Glenn Beck, I learned all about him from my grandfather ( a VERY Conservative man ) who not only lived through that era, but who was a big Teddy Roosevelt supporter; though he was disappointed in him, when he went third party.

Older people should be cherished, since they lived through what younger people call "history" and can explain what really went on back then, as well as helping younger people understand what times were REALLY like back then.
