I’m thinking taking a reading test is probably the only way to judge whether or not a child knows how to read. How else would you determine this?

I know lots of standardized testing is done to excess, but a reading test is probably a good thing to use as an assessment tool. It’s not assessing what they know but how equipped they are to find out so they can know.

There are Tons of ways to find out how well a child reads in the classroom. There are decoding tests and comprehension worksheets (read a passage and answer questions).

There doesn't need to be such an emphasis on the government standardized testing.

Some districts have placed such importance on the testing that teachers are teaching only to the tests because they're being evaluated on the scores.
