“Dr. Zhivago” is the only mainstream movie that I know about, that actually showed the Communists for what they were. I’ve seen it about 30 times...
My father was very young during the second Communist invasion of the Baltics during WWII, but old enough to remember. He was part of an upper middle-class family with a modest house and the “wrong” political persuasion. They were considered “rich” so the Communists moved a Communist-supporting family into their house. Everyone had guns but were outnumbered by the Communists.
My grandparents had to choose between a Stalin death camp or one of Hitler’s. They chose the latter and luckily, the war ended soon after.
I’m sick that my parents both say the same thing is happening here, and has been for a long time. When they were legally admitted into the country after WWII, the USA was the proverbial beacon of freedom.
That’s pretty much how I see it, except I did not have direct experience as your family has.
I’ve said many times lately that the US has become how the USSR was described to me in grade school in the early 60’s.

Senator Joe McCarthy tried. Lord knows he tried. But the American Sheeple raised their fluffy heads and nodded.
