Are smoke screens all that effective these days? I thought they were more of a mid-20th century defensive solution.

I suggest they put up some giant mirrors to project the image of the city to a different location.

Either that or cover it in mylar a la David Copperfield so it can't be seen at night.

Seemed to work against Superman in the latest movie.

We test obscurants on a regular basis. They have varying degrees of effectiveness and degrees of hazards. Some of the generators are pretty cool, but they expend consumables at an amazing rate, and all are still subject to wind and weather.

If they are talking about making the city dissappear from radar, this is something different than a smoke screen as we understand it ... or this is just sloppy reporting by the media.
