The union is not about the worker but about the union bosses and their power. They crave the power element so much that they refuse to let the union membership vote on which political candidates or party they want their dues to go to. For all practical purposes all the union political contributions go to the Democrats. It has to be absurd that none of the union members are Republicans and that their preferences should be recognized. If I were a union member this fact alone would cause me to avoid paying union dues if possible.
When workers are able to choose whether to pay dues or not many elect not to. Sometimes the unions have to close up shop because of the defections. Happened in a lot of school districts in WI after Gov. Walker got through with the unions in his state. Not only did hoards of teachers and school employees escape the union dues, but their health insurance premiums went down dramatically also.
This judge must be up for re-election and will benefit from the union support. She will lose in the end and look like the union shill that she is.
