The second amendment was adopted because Americans have the right to protect themselves from an oppressive government. Trump may well be the first big-name national politician to publicly recognize that fact. (I've heard it from WV State legislators.) That alone should justify at least some minimal grudging support from conservatives and constitutionalists.
