i think unfortunately the khan thing is going to hurt severely in the short term, b/c it plays into the most powerful argument that the other side has: Trump is a scary, irrational, racist.
Obviously we all know that is not the slightest bit true. But this episode was just fodder for hilary. Without this...she has nothing.
But as between national security and demonstrating that we are not racist....I think the country is for the foreseeable future going to continue siding majority with “we aren’t racist!”. That seems to be a more important value than national security. Sadly.
What Trump has to do is quit “confirming” the only argument that hilary has...he needs to stop letting them exploit their idea that he is racist. And then when THAT is sucessfuly defused, he can turn this back into a national security race.
If he does that, he might have a chance to win. If he fails in that, then the voters are going to punish the racist, and elect an America-hating criminal.
(Then of course there’s the vote fraud problem....which is massive....)
Hurt severely? You're pulling our legs, of course. Any moron could see the guy is a Muslim. If the guy were a white Christian and Trump commented about the guy's wife... maybe it would hurt Trump a little. But not this guy.
