Republicans worried that Donald Trump has squandered a critical stretch of the campaign are urging the candidate to return his focus to the issues that won him the Republican presidential nomination.
Trumps supporters say he too easily falls into traps set by Democrats and the media, and has allowed himself to be blown off course with fewer than 100 days to go before the election.
There is still time to turn things around, they say, but the candidate must stay true to his message of improving the lives of working-class people and rooting out government corruption and the influence of special interests if hes going to reclaim momentum in the race.
Hopefully, Donald Trump will soon recognize that if you take the bait every time, youll never have a chance to discuss the real issues, Ben Carson, a former Republican presidential candidate who is now advising Trump, told The Hill.
We have the upper hand on the economy, education .. and a whole host of things, there is no dearth of substantial issues to talk about, Carson said. There is no reason to engage with those who are trying to make this about something else. ... You pivot back to whats important, you dont have to take the bait. Learning that is perhaps one of the most important things.

As they should. This stuff about the Kahn family is not important in the larger scheme of things.
Trump’s convention speech is one of the best in recent memory. If he sticks to those themes and doesn’t get distracted or baited, he wins and becomes a great President like Ronald Reagan.
The GOPe has been off message since 11:59 am on January 20, 1989.
Trump is on message.
Trump is just fine and doesn’t need the GOP to tell him what to do. The GOP have shown themselves to be losers and a good portion of the GOP has gone over to the other side anyway.
Mr. Trump, stay the course, keep being Trump. The people will love you for it. It is a breath of fresh air to have genuine discourse and not hand-wringing wimpy politically-corrected speech.
In case anyone noticed, Trump has been on message. The people who have been off message are the Republican Party led by the oily and vile Paul Ryan, the vile and corrupt President of the United States, Charles Krauthammer, and the entire mass media from far right to far left. While Trump and Pence give excellent speeches on Hillary, corruption, the war, taxes, etc., the vultures of Washington and NY have focused on his tiny tweets and two minutes out of a half hour interview.
As they should. This stuff about the Kahn family is not important in the larger scheme of things.
Trump will do BOTH, it is not one or the other.
I loved that convention speech. I’d almost forgotten how good it was, and that Donald was the one who gave it. If he can’t become less ADHD and stay rationally on message, Hillary will mop the floor with him in the first debate. I never thought I’d be worried about that prospect from him, but after the last few months, yes, I have concerns. I don’t want Hillary in the White House.
I hate to admit it but he has been very easily distracted, and I get that he’s tenacious about making his point but when you’re running for President, there’s going to be a lot of petty distractions. He needs to stay focused on what matters. Insignificant individuals wouldn’t get any coverage at all if he ignored them. No one even watched the Dems convention or knew about this guy’s speech until Trump brought it into the spotlight. Time to let it go and move on. Get back to the point about the corrupt system and don’t worry about the gnats.
If the GOP wants to root out Government coruption, maybe they should pay some attention to what Trump is saying.
I do agree that maybe there are some things from the cut throats in the media and the dem party that Trump should just ignore.
Somehow I thought immigration and terrorism were key parts of the message, BOTH of which Khan represented.
Maybe if the GOPe would actually get behind Trump?
Don’t kid yourself: their idea of a “message” is to dampen down all criticism of Cankles and Zero.
Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich is 2 steps ahead, stating Republicans will not accept debate schedule.
It is a SCAM. Trump and Newt fighting back and exposing the Liberal Media Corruption.

“Trumps convention speech is one of the best in recent memory”
I agree...especially towards the end..he really got into it..like he was in a zone..he made you forget there was a teleprompter. I just wish he had carried that same passion of the issues forward at his rallies. We are not going to win simply by calling Hillary “Evil”.
Yeah, "Get on message", Trump..
GFY and FUGOP!!!!!
Disagree. The Donald is picking the wrong fights too often. We know he’s right but too many may not realize that the “sympathetic” Gold Star Kahn’s for example are actually political pawns, and sell green cards for illegal immigration, and are connected with the Muslim Brotherhood. Either he pounds that message, or move on to something important.
Trump supporters get to easily distracted and down-trodden ( guilty myself) but guys we need to start looking at the sources of these BS stories like this one from The Hill - HELLO!! The only way for Democrats and MSM to get Hillary elected is to keep us all dejected, depressed, which will keep turnout low.
Also, who gives a rat’s a$$ if the anyone in the GOP is for, or against Trump. They have all been against him from the start and it’s been WE DIE-HARD supporters who got him where he’s at now - not the GOP or anyone in Washington (except Sessions).
All that said, Trump does need to stay on message and not worried so much about hitting back at every bee that stings. Only swat at the bees who can do the most damage, and the rest to the hive.
He will use this face.
“Worried GOP tells Trump: Get on message”
I don’t think the GOP is worried. The GOP will be just fine as log as Trump is far behind in the polls.
The were worried a week ago when Trump was ahead.
