CLEVELAND (AP) -- As he turns his attention to the general election, Donald Trump is signaling that he is ready to tone down his fiery rhetoric on illegal immigration at least behind closed doors.
At the same time, Republican officials appear eager to push him in a more moderate direction, telling Hispanics that he has abandoned his divisive primary pledge to deport the estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally even if Trump hasn't said so publicly himself.

“11 million”. LOL!
He won’t flip flop. He might keep his plans a little more private, though.
Well, he doesn’t have you on his team. I guess that is worse.
If you look at my posting history I was probably the first person on Free Republic to openly support Trump. I was scorned and ridiculed for it.
Geez, that is so radical and common sense to elect Trump/defeat Clinton versus laying on our backs like two year olds crying that Trump has abandoned us before the election is over.
He was in a local CO. interview and said he would ENFORCE EXISTING IMMI laws, no need for new ones. Then some indication he would issue a more specific plan in a few weeks
Hang in there. Help us all buck up.;-)
Either way the “modern” Republican Party is dead. Trump has transformed it back to it’s nationalist roots win or lose.
But we’ve been burnt by all the “negotiating” in DC. That never ends well for conservatives and liberals ALWAYS get the better end.
So I how he isn’t THAT flexible on the issue.
What you said!
Larry Kudlow always has been a charter member of the Treason Lobby.
You have stated exactly why I, and millions of others have supported Trump. And we’re now waiting for him to refute this rumor that he has flip-flopped on these major issues.
A refusal to deport is defacto Amnesty. Something that worthless No Borders Bush figured out during his term.
Didnt he have an immigration plan on his website already?
Exactly. This is coming from Republican “officials” ... not from Donald Trump. Or probably more accurate to say ... coming from MSM. And it does seem like I read something similar prior to the convention, seems like an effort to worry/delflate Trump supporters.
WRONG I changed my screen name previously KitCat!!! Been here for years!!!!!
he did but he said this in the CO interview
Not really, hes not mentioned deporting them for a few months now. Larry Kudlow, who is advising him on economic issues has talked about how his team has been trying to talk him into full amnesty. Last I heard from Larry it wasnt clear where Trump would definitely end up on the issuebut Larry was optimistic that hed roll over for amnesty.>>> he’s not going to need to deport many. Build the wall and make alot of noise. enforce current employment laws and most will self deport as they did under Eisenhower.
