Well, IQ doesn’t exactly equate to being able to think like a normal human being and interact well with normal people. I grew up in a town with the highest number of PhDs per capita in the country (and perhaps the world at the time; mostly all physicists and mathematicians) and I can vouch that nearly all of them (not all, but nearly all) could not interact on a normal level with general, run-of-the-mill people. And, for the most part, they have a huge deficit of common sense.

And this is not just my impression. There were traffic signs in more places than would be normal in a small town; at the lab, there were special internal “rules” for dealing with certain groups, to ensure that they followed the normal security and safety rules (”these sorts of rules are stupid and not needed for people like us”), etc. And I have numerous stories of what weirdness and madness can ensue when some of these guys tried to “help out” on camping trips with our Boy Scout troop...

People like this tend to be a special sort of person, not unlike dealing with mentally challenged or retarded people: both groups need special handling to be able to get along in the modern world without causing undue and unneeded problems for themselves and others.

Very interesting and food for thought. Thank-you for telling us your experiences in that community a detailed way.

And if you have any camping stories to tell about the kids and the PhDs that would be a hoot.

Goes along with the over-educated and under-educated favoring the Democrat party. I know some like you describe, and feel the same way about them. Also, autistics can be extremely gifted in a very specific area, but struggle in society.

I work with smart people.

It seems like some of them have Asperger’s Syndrome.
