Good for her. No one in my family has ever owned a slave going back 200 years, according to census records. If those who feel guilt think they can buy their way out then they are suckers. Does she give a receipt one can wave at a thug and get them to apologize and not take tour wallet?
I have had folks point out to me that “so what” your ancestors owned no slaves. No one today has ever owned a slave. Good point. This is all so much PT Barnum...born every minute.
Not only that but in some areas of the south the largest slave owners were black.
It’s been said that as a whole demographic group, the last time black people were a boon to America and not a burden was when they were enslaved, which is a horrible thing to say because their are many dark-hued individuals who are good and hardworking people, but ultimately the above statement is an indictment not on white culture and their beliefs but black culture and their behavior.
It’s not just whether or not you owned a slave anymore. You are supposed to feel guilty for simply being born white.
Screw em. I have no guilt.
well over 95% of americans never owned slaves or participated in slavery in any way... the population of the country at the time was around 1,000,000 with only 50,000 total slave owners.
Most people came to America around 1900... ergo, most of us had nothing to do with slavery in the first place... I guess we all look like prior slave owners to certain kinds of people though ... and that is enough...
