[IMHO, this article is way, way over the top.]
As Republicans prepare for their nominee, Donald Trump, to take the stage here Thursday night under the theme Make America One Again, the previous evenings eruption of bitterness from the brutal primary campaign season threatened efforts to end the convention on a substantive and unified note...
... when Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) pointedly refused to endorse Trump, who had bested him in the race for the presidential nomination. Cruz instead urged Republicans to vote your conscience and was roundly booed off the stage.
Cruz used very bad judgment. I think he made a mistake, Manafort said on NBCs Today show Thursday. I think he was not respectful to the invitation by the convention to come and speak. He understood what the responsibilities are of somebody in his position, and he didnt meet them.

Cruze is mature, adult and experienced enough to make up his own mind. He chose to not endorse Trump.
Big deal.
The powers that be chose to invite Cruz to speak. Bully for them. Cruz rudely decided to turn his back on them.
This is like poisoning yourself because you dislike your opponent
The WaPo is trying to make this sound like the convention is doomed as a result.
I doubt it.
The Washington Post and all it’s employees are all mixed up. Total loons.
Cruz proved he is a liar and a fool who’s word is of little value but he did manage to get the GOP united against him. This will carry over as Trump will take 47 states.
THAT is the most significant thing about the media in this election cycle.
We all knew they were biased, they used to pretend not to be.
This election they have given up any pretense. Their bias clearly shows and they don't care any more.
More flaming Bull$h!t from the Washington Poo.
Trump is a far bigger man than his friends and enemies want to acknowledge.
For an outsider who has never been a professional politician, he plays the game far better than many career politicians do.
And he is still met with scorn than accorded respect.
Ted Cruz helps Hillary so he can run in 2020, principled conservative LOL
Hey Ted hope that check from the Clinton Foundation to you hasn’t bounced!
Ted Cruz, a sitting Senator from Texas, has tried unsuccessfully to paint Trump as the consummate insider Republican and himself, Ted Cruz, as the only one wanting to fight the powers-that-be.
Fail.
I don’t think the speech helped either of them and I think both bear some blame.
Cruz obviously should have endorsed; but Trump should not have given him the forum unless he agreed to endorse explicitly.
Cruz giving a prime time non-endorsing speech shouldn’t have happened.
Huh? He proved he was a liar six months ago in Iowa. He’s been lying ever since. He’s a sociopath like Hillary and Slick.
The media can take any action Trump does and twist its meaning. Last night, after Pence spoke, Trump came out on stage to congratulate him and then walked off stage. It was Pence’s moment to receive the attention.
The Today show voice over said that Trump “left” him on the stage alone, as if Trump abandoned Pence, rejected Pence, or had some horrible motive.
They said the same thing when Trump introduced Pence Saturday. If Trump had remained, they would have accused Trump of hogging the limelight.
A PBS reporter interviewed people in public somewhere, stated to the people that Trump wants to send American troops overseas basically everywhere, then asked the interviewees, “What do you think of Trump sending American troops overseas?”
These people are huddling at this moment and trying to come up with ways to twist whatever Trump says or does to distract everyone from what Trump actually says and does.
The only deleterious effect of Cruz’s self inflicted wound is Cruz’s political future, nothing more.
Trump let Cruz give his little speech at the convention, didn’t he?
Profound benevolence on Trumps part, a giant step for unity.
Cruz broke the oath to the party, not Trump.
I wonder how much we’ll hear about unity at Hillary’s convention. Will they even acknowledge the Bernie fart-in? Will they place microphones so anti-hillary (pro-rule-of-law) delegates can’t be heard?
The WaPo needs to be worried about Democrat unity.
Trump is gonna pull away a LOT of the Reagan Democrats.
It will more than make up for the tiny sliver of GOP elitists who will sit home having a snit.
The wife and I were watching AGT last night so we left it on NBC to listen to Pence speak (Awesome speech BTW) -- afterward dinosaur Brokjaw and the rest were falling all over themselves that Trump didn't raise hands with Pence and didn't stay on the stage.
They could not fathom that Trump was letting Pence have his moment in the sun. All they could do was blubber "THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT IS DONE!!!!" and how the end fell flat because Trump did not do it the right way!!!!! LOL IDIOTS!
I think the more controversy the press talks about the more chance people who wouldn’t typically watch a political speech will actually tune in. Can only be good for Trump. He needs people to tune in and see he’s more than the bully they see from 10 second clips on the news and Hillary’s ads.
