CLEVELAND Hours before he was scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention, former presidential candidate Ted Cruz drew loud boos from his supporters at the mere mention of the GOP's nominee, Donald Trump.
Cruz, who has not endorsed Trump despite accepting a speaking slot for the convention's Wednesday night session, chuckled and let the boos continue during a thank-you event for his delegates and supporters in Cleveland.
While the crowd at the lakeside bar made their feelings clear about Trump, Cruz didn't offer any signal as to what he would say in his convention speech or whether he would endorse the billionaire businessman. Cruz former campaign manager Jeff Roe refused to answer repeated requests from reporters before the address to supporters on whether Cruz would make an endorsement.
The Texas senator elicited the crowd's negative reaction toward Trump when he noted that during the primaries, "In an amazing field of 17 talented, amazing candidates, we beat 15 of those candidates. We just didn't beat 16."
"Our party now has a nominee," he continued, as his delegates immediately cut him off with a string of boos.
In a stroke of luck, Trump's plane, carrying the nominee, flew across the sky just as Cruz mentioned Trump's name.
The boos continued as many in the crowd pointed to the plane emblazoned with the name of their party's nominee, and Cruz couldn't help but laugh.
"That was pretty well orchestrated. Jeff, did you email them to fly the plane right when I said that?" Cruz yelled to Roe. But a potential run was certainly on the minds of the attendees, who repeatedly broke in to chant "2020," the year of the next presidential election.
"I don't know what the future is going to hold, I don't know what will happen, but what I do know is my unshakable faith in the men and women here," he said.
"Every one of us has an obligation to follow our conscience, to speak the truth and truth is unchanging, to defend liberty. There's a lot of talk about unity I want to see unity and the way to see unity is to unite around shared principles, to unite around Liberty, and for us to empower the grassroots."
I realize I probably shouldn’t say what my heart tells me about Ted. I will say, this continued action and deliberate choice of direction is insulting to every voter.
Ted is stealing the spotlight from Pence.
All day, the media speculation about his endorsement, tonights talking head blather and all day tomorrow no matter which way he swings, will dominate the news and Pence gets barely a mention.
With Ted, it’s all about Ted.
Rush went to great lengths today to explain that a non-endorsement means nothing since nobody expects politicians to keep their promises anyway.
He completely missed the point that Teds speech tonight will have less effect on Trumps support than it will with Teds dwindling political future.
Those delegates should be ousted for future office.
“Hes positioning himself to be the new Mitt Romney.”
Sure looks that way.
As classless and undignified as their Canadian hero.
Hopefully some of the Bikers for Trump run into these creeps
“Im not sure whos crazier or more wicked. Cruz or his supporters, including one or two left on here.”
But... but... they’re the only REAL conservatives! I mean, they say so, right?
Even if Cruz endorses Trump tonight, I won’t forgive him for being a dishonest, narcissistic dickhead. His supporters, at least, can be partially forgiven since they’re just simpleminded morons.
And if Cruz DOESN’T endorse Trump tonight... within the first 15 seconds of his speech, every Trump supporter in the hall should boo at the top of their lungs and NOT stop until the idiot is swept off the stage with the other garbage.
God has a sense of humor. He sent Trump’s plane by, He could have sent a lightning bolt. Wake up Cruz supporters.
Cruz should take Trump’s plane as a sign from the Lord that he should sit down and shut up (and go back to the Senate to continue his enemy-making, or whatever it is he does there).
Great moment!
That was perfect timing.
It’s tough to photobomb with a 757.
Delusional half-wits.
Yep, he’s helping Hillary, and vying for 2020.

With the crowd chanting Twenty-twenty in reference to another Cruz presidential campaign in the unspoken assumption that Mr. Trump will lose to Hillary Clinton, Mr. Cruz left them with an exhortation that they not forget which side of the 2016 campaign they chose.
Citing a scene from the movie Patton, Mr. Cruz made clear to his supporters that backing him over Mr. Trump was the correct choice that will serve them well in the future.
Every one of us who was part of this, when were old and gray and our grandkids ask, Where were you in the great one, the great battle? We will be able to say to our grandkids, I wasnt shoveling crap in Louisiana.
I’m not and there are many other Texans on FR who can’t wait to get rid of his clown.
Messiah complex.
I think it was a mistake to give Cruz a speaking slot at the convention. He speaks of unity when what he really means is unity around him.
Nightmare scenario: Cruz vs. George P. in the primary; Winner vs. Wendy Davis in the general.
He was spreading manure in Colorado.
Even though they boo him, I am glad that Donald Trump invited Cruz and his supporters to the Convention.
I am glad Trump invited Cruz to speak even though Cruz refused to endorse him.
It shows Trump to be the bigger man. It also lets Cruz and his supporters show their true colors.
Cruz pledged to support the Republican nominee. Like most of the Republican candidates Cruz has reneged on his pledge.
Trump also reached out to John Kasich. Kasich had also pledged to support the nominee. He also reneged on his pledge and refused to even attend the convention in his home state.
Jeb Bush, who also pledged to support the nominee, has been attacking Trump in the media. Jeb has also announced to the media that he will not vote for Trump.
Trump should just let these people show their true colors. Trump has allowed the American people to see what these people are really like.
