I don’t understand. How is a roll call vote a coup d’etat? How are they even similar?

The NeverTrumpers were unable to get what they wanted in the rules committee (a floor vote on unbinding the delegates on the first ballot). So, they've tried to get enough state delegations to demand a floor vote on adopting the rules committee report, to try and reject the rules committee report and then maneuver into a floor vote on unbinding the delegates.

I think that describes what the NeverTrumpers are trying now. They've already lost in the normal process of changing the rule on delegates, so they're trying another maneuver to try and get what they want.

They’ve lost on the request for a floor vote too. They had 10 states on a petition but delegates from 3 states rescinded their support and the motion failed.

I understand what you are saying. But I think “coup d’etat” is stretching it out as a metaphor. It’s more like a legitimate political maneuver. Ron Paul’s people tried it against Romney in 2012. The Romney people had the guy with the petition for Ron Paul trapped on a bus for three hours so he couldn’t deliver the petition. Apparently something similar is going on this year with the Secretary of the Convention hiding behind armed guards so the petition cannot be delivered.

This is all procedural games that get played every convention. Calling it a coup d’etat make people look silly, IMHO. Even Romney’s people in 2012 didn’t get so hyperbolic. They just trapped Paul’s guy on a bus and didn’t let Paul get nominated or speak. It was a rules dispute too.

Well put.
However they know they can’t get what they want and are just insisting on a roll call vote- instead of accepting the voice vote- because they can.
The outcome will be the same.

Well, except that they’ll get their names in the media which does, and will, make a mountain out of this insignificant molehill.

I expect the Never Trumpers to keep trying, all the way to the Election. They would rather have Hillary than take the chance that Trump exposes their corruption. They have plenty of support thanks to idiots such as Glenn Beck, who backed Cruz with about everything he had (Cruz was the answer to Mormon prophecy, blah, blah, blah)
