Trump Campaign Guts GOP’s anti-Russia Stance on Ukraine
Washington Post ^ | 7/18/16 | Josh Rogin

Posted on 07/18/2016 12:34:40 PM PDT by cassiusking

The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.

Islam is our biggest enemy. The Russians, while dangerous are a lesser enemy but are enemies with fundamental Islam. We can’t fight the fundamentalists alone.

I don’t see a need to put such specifics in our platform. It only ties our hands. We know we need a better future—let’s don’t prescribe how we get there.

I fully support Trump on this issue for most of the reasons already stated above.

ISIS is just as virulent as Nazi Germany? That defies history but you believe whatever you want to believe.

You better study some history pal, the fact is, Nazi Germany never conducted the sort of foreign terror operations right here at home in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, and ISIS has. I believe it because it's true.

Putin can fight ISIS, and Islamofascism in general, without laying claim to, and invading states, that aren't his.

So at what point do we declare World War III on Putin's ass because of his dispute with the Ukraine? I'll bet you would be ready to issue the 'go codes' yourself.

To allow Putin to pursue his dreams of rebuilding Soviet Russia simply because he's an ally in the war against Islam, is, well, dumb.

Tell us how you would proceed, ok genius?

“Putin built churches? If so ...”

In other words, you don’t know, so why should anybody listen to someone who admits ignorance. Apparently you want war, facts or no facts. Neocon numbskull.

Whether Putin is a saint or a demon is not at issue. What matters is that my government got caught with its hand in the cookie jar and is blaming the baker for our attempted theft. We have no more business in Ukraine than Russia has in Mexico or British Columbia.

It was our State Department and its fellow-traveling NGOs that financed and instigated the overthrow of Ukraine's democratically elected president in February, 2014. We were naive enough to think that Russia would sit idly by while we seized its one-and-only warm water port and naval base at Sevastopol. Somehow we got the hairbrained idea that Russia would surrender control of the Black Sea and its vital southern flank to an expansionist NATO - absolute lunacy! No matter what anyone thinks of Putin, he recognized a strategic threat and acted in his country's interest. Ukraine is none of our business.

I believe it because it's true.

You let me know when ISIS approaches killing 50 million and sends the world into war. In the meantime, we'll chalk up your misunderstanding of history to a penchant for hyperbole.

So at what point do we declare World War III on Putin's ass because of his dispute with the Ukraine?

Supplying arms and other support to Ukraine so they can defend themselves against an invader is analogous to starting WWIII? Right. By that measure, WWIII was already fought when we financed and supplied the Afghan mujahideen in 1979. You must be talking about WW IV.

Tell us how you would proceed, ok genius?

You're right. There is nothing we can do to stop the inevitable rebuilding of Soviet Russia by Putin. We should just sit by and let him make the world a safer place. It's what Reagan would do, after all.

contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.

Would that would be the same "Republican foreign policy leaders" who got us in this mess to begin with?

The same leaders who bear great responsibility for the conditions that led to the election and re-election of Barack Obama?

Those policy leaders?

Reagan was a neo-con?

Standing up to thugs and dictators only requires common sense, not meaningless labels. That simple common sense tends to escape those who have no grasp of history.

Communists cannot be Christian. Only a fool believes otherwise.

No, ISIS is worse than Nazi Germany. With Germany you could shoot down their fighters, blow up their tanks and roll into Berlin and raise the flag over the Capitol. War basically over.

But you could nuke mecca and racca tomorrow and you’d see Paris, Belgium, Nice, Madrid, san Bernardino,, etc. And probably even more intense.

Yes, Islamic fundamentalism is probably a bigger existential threat than the Nazis ever were.

No, he just doesn’t have a hard on for a proxy war with Russia. BTW, Ukraine has it’s own arms industry, including building tanks and AFVs.

“The military-industrial complex of Ukraine is the most advanced and developed branch of the state’s sector of economy. Ukraine’s formidable defense industry, which employed more than one million people and produced cutting-edge hardware like the Morozov Design Bureau’s new BTR-4 and the AN-70.”

Interesting, that must be why we didn’t invade Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and now Syria and demand they fall into our orbit. Take your neocon crap elsewhere.

Moron. No, the kgb under putin didn’t destroy churches and murder Christians.
That was the 1920s and 30s under Stalin.

Putin was basically a colonel in a backwater assignment until after the USSR dissolved.
And if you really don’t know about the massive rebuilding program he launched, where the chunches destroyed by the bolsheviks were painstakingly rebuilt, and you don’t know about the air droppable church module they developed for the airborne, then you are just an uninformed person who is stuck in the 50s.

A standard comedy device on the Lucy show was Fred Mertz in the 50s, getting out his WWI helmet, reliving WWI.....that’s you.
