The Enquirer broke the John Edwards love child story, after the MSM tried to cover up for Edwards. So, the answer is ‘no’ we can’t do better, the MSM standards are actually lower than those of the Enquirer.

First off, the Enquirer has some serious vetting of stories so if they print it, it's probably factual. The Enquirer has broken many political scandals no one else would touch.
And who better to get the word out than the National Enquirer.
