"HIPAA does not prevent patients or their guardians from viewing their own records."
My sister was denied access to her own son's medical records, and he was a minor at the time. When my kids reached puberty, our pediatrician asked me to leave the room when certain questions were being asked of my children. I understand the right to privacy, but there's something wrong when parents are kept from information about their own minor children.

I don’t doubt you at all, but that’s not HIPAA.
I was once told by a receptionist that I couldn’t have copies of my records, because of HIPAA. She was wrong. I had to go over her head, but I did get my records. Just because someone claims HIPAA says something, doesn’t make it so.
