That would be easily verifiable.
And don't forget that the time of General Pershing and the burial of Mohamedans with pig offal occurred over 100 years ago.
Everything was much different then - more basic to say the least.
Logistics, values, technology, food preservation, rules of engagement, budgets, the government, the media - everything.
There was no political correctness and wars were fought with the objective of killing the enemy and winning the conflict - not to win the hearts and minds of the enemy.
