IIRC - under the Turkish Constitution, the military is allowed and has a duty to intervene and depose a government that doesn't follow the Constitution.

At least twice before they have deposed the government, held new elections, and returned to their barracks.

The Turkish military used to do a lot of deposing. Ataturk and the generals that followed him would’ve never allowed an Islamist like Erdogan to come to power. Their brass must’ve been castrated since then.
