The family of Philando Castile has shared a copy of his permit to carry letter with Fox 9. The permit was issued by Hennepin County on June 4, 2015.

He didn’t have a RAP SHEET??
And the waters just get muddier and muddier
A few dozen traffic tickets, no insurance, speeding, failing to move his car on a snow day etc.
Oh man... This is bad for LEO. Head on a swivel guys.
He was ticketed numerous times for traffic offenses and convicted of a few. No non-driving related charges and was not on any list of known gangstas.
Might have been a clueless stoner but went to work every day.
People need to stop acting like having unpaid traffic tickets is a capital offense.
I didn’t think one could be on drugs with a concealed permit?
IN that county or is permitted statewide?
But, did he have a driver’s license for his present address? Was the address on his carry license correct?
Who, when stopped by the police, has a gun partially covered, on their lap, and then makes a move toward that area?
Not buying this leak, which appears to confirm the narrative, just yet. I will wait until all the facts are released. And I hope they will be!
Endless traffic violations, including driving without a license and insurance on multiple occasions as well as having pot in the car but, of course, he was an innocent victim. Personally, if he saved the life of one pedestrian who crossed his path, I’m happy he’s gone to happy hunting grounds...
Concealed carry permits in Minnesota are statewide. But the local sheriff issues them for the state.
“I didnt think one could be on drugs with a concealed permit?”
Do you want to revoke the gun permits for everyone that drinks alcohol or gets high on pot?
Either way this was not good for the LEO
Its a sucky situation either way, that wallet could have been a gun. You don’t know.
Castile should have just followed police orders.
To me, dealing with the police is like playing “Simon says”, except Simon has a gun.
In New Jersey, I am sure in other states as well, all school employees must pass a back ground check, any felonies would disqualify you from any employment, teacher, janitor, secretary, cafeteria, bus drives, doesn’t matter if you deal with students or not. Any felony would disqualify your employment, any felonies after you have been hired would get you automatically fired. This is standard in many states.
No school district is going to fire you for traffic tickets or minor offenses
Yep. Once again people jump to conclusions way too fast. Whatever he did in the past did NOT amount to a death sentence.
He didn’t live in Hennepin county at the time of his demise. He failed to update his permit with his new address within 30 days with Ramsey County.
Another misdemeanor.
If moving violations are a capital offense in your eyes then I'd hate to hear what your penalty for jaywalking is.
The permit may have been valid, but validity is determined by the permit holder’s behavior and is subject to revocation for violations/criminal behavior.
For example the fact may emerge that Castile was under the influence while driving and allegedly armed could be de-facto revocation of validity of permit on discovery of the facts.
I’m not a lawyer but it seems reasonable the validity of a permit depends on the holder’s behavior.
And whether he had a CCP or not, does not address what the cop asked him and what his verbal or physical response was. Was he reaching for a weapon? Or reaching for something and a weapon happened to in the general vicinity? I’ve seen enough photos that make me convinced he had a weapon on his leg or thereabouts.
This is ugly.
