The Bernie backers who might have voted for Hillary will vote for Trump if she picks Stavridis.

Stavradis would be the least bad option for a VP from a conservative perspective.

Not a good pick, but a least bad one.

He is very much an establishment pick, former Combatant Commander, and his Foreign Policy magazine articles are mostly conventional wisdom/establishment.

His selection would reassure the establishment. Which is the only portion of the country whose support she can count on. It brings nothing to the table in terms of generating enthusiasm or improving her public perception.

Bush choosing Cheney and Obama choosing Biden reassured portions of the electorate about their foreign policy credentials (I know, Biden is an idiot, but Dems think he is smart). Palin gained McCain support from conservatives. G.W. Bush gained Reagan establishment support. In those cases helping the campaign.

Stavradis doesn't bring foreign policy credibility to a former Secretary of State. Maybe he can show her how to use government email? He will likely be like Quayle, Ferraro, Gore, or Mondale, neither helping nor hurting.

Focus group trial balloon.

Since Trump’s team are supposedly considering a couple of generals, Clinton needs to run one of the flagpole and see if it will work.

Apparently, for this to have ‘leaked’ [yeah, right, when have the Clintons ever had anything ‘leak’ that they didn’t want out?], Fauxcahauntas must not be polling too well as the VP contender.

It is jarring every time I hear about a member/former member of one of our armed services being considered as a DemocRat candidate. How could someone who devoted their life to defending the country represent the party that is destroying it from within?

My attempt to answer this starts with noting that it seems the ones who run as DemocRats (Wesley what’s his name and the guy in this article) are always high-ranking people. A number of ex military Republican politicians seem to come from lower rankings (below general staff level) such as Allen West, Tom Cotton, Joni Ernst, just to name a few that come to mind.

From this distinction, I draw an inference that to get to the higher ranks in our military, you have to be a true butt-kissing, bureaucratic, ruthless climber who willingly goes along with all the latest fashions in social engineering, multiculturalism and political correctness. IOW, a classic DemocRat politician. Republican politicians come from the ranks of the guys who actually lead troops in the field, get their hands dirty and do the hard work. IOW totally unqualified to be a DemocRat politician.

This is a Hitlery attempt to draw white men. It’ll work like a lead balloon.

Because Dukakis did so well?

Or because Spiro T. Agnew worked out so well for crooked Dick?

Generals worked out very well as candidates after earlier wars, but they aren't household words anymore. If you have to ask "Who?" it's probably not a good candidate.
