My grandmother and mother used to live right down there, at Pennsylvania and North Avenues. Had a little deli. In those days, nobody shot anybody.
Today the area around North Avenue is “Crime Central” for that part of Baltimore. If Baltimore was called “The City of Brotherly Love” (instead of Phila), today it would be called “The City of Bro Blood”.
