Black Harvard economist finds no racial bias in officer-involved shootings

The youngest black professor ever to receive tenure at Harvard and recipient of an economics prize for “most promising American economist under 40” has just upended the conventional wisdom on police shootings.

There is no racial bias when officers fire on suspects, according to a new study by Prof. Roland Fryer – black suspects are actually less likely to be shot than other suspects.

The study looked at more than a thousand shootings in 10 major police departments, The New York Times reports. Fryer and student researchers spent 3,000 hours putting together data from police reports in Houston, Austin, Dallas and Los Angeles, as well as Orlando, Jacksonville and four other Florida counties.

What the prof is saying is that many white police officers hesitate when it becomes necessary to shoot a black perpetrator, and, of course, this hesitation to shoot is probably due to officer’s knowledge that the shooting of a black perp will cause one hell of a shit-storm in the leftist MSM, he’ll probably lose his job, and then spend the rest of his life in hiding.

I wonder how many police officers have lost their lives due to this hesitation to shoot.

The big racial difference shown by the data Fryer examined is the use of force in non-shooting scenarios, where black people were more likely to experience force from police – say, being pushed up against a wall or pepper sprayed...now Dr. Fryer must do the next study in the series - check to see if it's not the case that blacks are more likely to resist complying with police requests and are more uncooperative, leading to the greater need for force - taught from an early age that police are their enemies and won't treat them fairly (the white mayor of New York even had a talk with his half-black son telling him to expect to be treated more harshly than whites by the police in his own city), blacks would naturally tend to have chip on their shoulders and respond defensively when confronted by policemen - shouldn't be too hard a study to complete, what with all the policecam footage out there these days....
