I certainly support the 2nd Amendment.
I choose not to have guns but I support the rights of others to do so. In fact, I am glad several of my good neighbors have guns and that criminals don’t know if I do or not.
I’ve gone back and forth about owning a gun other than the 22 rifle my uncle gave me. I like having the right to own one if I ever decide to do so.
It's pronounced la-VISH with the axent on the second sybil.
My question is to those who are in a right to carry state or ccw permitted, while pulling over to a stop, would you ever leave a gun resting on your thigh half hidden or do you move it away from your shooting hand where the officer knows you can’t reach it quickly?
CCW permits are issued by the STATE!
By county sheriff. Maybe they’re “state” permits, but here, and every other place I’ve heard of, is county. Some counties, for instenace in CA, are “Shall issue” and some are “May issue”. BIG difference. I guess the state may have a list of all the counties’ CCP holders, may vary state to state.
I read both articles. An UNNAMED source said the guy had a ccp. UNNAMED. SO freaking what.
And the racial profiling article is nasty leftist screed.
So pictures of him with “Crips” as titles, and throwing gang signs, are meaningless.
But an UNNAMED source verifies like carved in stone that he had a ccp.
Sheesh...
I suggest you go look up confirmation bias.
The pictures don't prove anything. And, if you can set your bias aside, consider that the victim didn't have a single arrest for a serious crime in the 15 years of his adult life. And, he has worked at a public school for over a decade, which requires a background check.
It defies logic to think that a "gang member" would have been able to do this.
But an UNNAMED source verifies like carved in stone that he had a ccp.
It's been confirmed by two different media outlets. Due to state law, that's the best we can do at this time.
The victim's mother has also been quoted that both her son and her daughter have a CCW permit. I can understand the skepticism for just her son, but why would she also include her daughter if it wasn't true?
Screw you.
*I* have a bias, and you don’t. Who died and made you God? You know my heart and mind?
I believed the initial narrative until other evidenced surfaced.
Wrong You obviously do not have a CCW or know much about them They are issued by the sheriff in the county in which you reside They are and remain the property of said sheriff
And CCWs are NOT public record nor should they be You not only no nothing about them but aren’t thinking about the ramifications of the nonsense you are spouting
Some states recognize CCW permits from other states It is wise to research this prior to travel
It should be concealed not open It’s a CONCEALED weapon permit One should inform the officer where the weapon is and ask what he/she wants you to do Then comply To the letter If noncompliance does not get you killed it will result in loss of your permit

...you pretty much tipped your hand. I'm sure you think you were right, but that's your real problem.
I believed the initial narrative until other evidenced surfaced.
Which narrative? And what "evidence"?
The claim he didn't have a CCW? Wrong. Even though I cautioned many people that the statement by the Ramsey County Sheriff didn't preclude that he had a CCW issued by another county, where he lived earlier -- it fell on deaf ears.
The claim he was a convicted felon? Wrong, again. He has a long list of traffic offenses. Over half of them were dismissed. No arrests for serious crimes, and nothing that would disqualify him from holding a CCW permit.
The claim he was a robbery suspect? Wrong, thrice. He resembled a robbery suspect, but if he had really been a suspect the officer wouldn't have walked up to the car and asked for an ID -- he would have called for backup and had the driver out of the car where he could control the situation.
All of these things have been drowned out by innuendo and character assassination, because too many people on Free Republic are so desperate to believe Castile was a "bad guy", that they are willing to accept anything that even hints at it.
That is confirmation bias. If that makes you uncomfortable, go yell at a mirror, because that is where the fault lies.

Yeah, I’m biased against crips and gang hand signs.

You belong on a SJW website. I have rarely run into such an idiot feebly trying to masquerade as a conservative on FR. Using all the lingo and everything.
You are stupid as a turnip. In the State of Texas they are issued by the STATE! Period...and I have one!
This turnip has one issued by the sheriff in the county in which she resides in Colorado
Sounds like Minnesota is the same
I’m sorry if Texas is different I’ll concede I don’t know about every state The ones I have personal knowledge of the are issued by the local sheriff
And a public list of CCW holders is the dumbest idea I have ever heard you may want a target on your back I don’t wish one on mine
“...while pulling over to a stop, would you ever leave a gun resting on your thigh half hidden...”
I’m not sure I can answer that question as the normal place I keep a weapon would be not be “resting” on my thigh. Moving a weapon resting on your thigh to another spot in the car...while pulling over for a traffic stop...could be problematic also. Are you tossing it over to the unoccupied passenger seat? Are you trying to slide it under the driver or passenger seat? Maybe reaching around your seat to place it on the back seat floor? I don’t know. To the cop, might look like your trying to hide something you shouldn’t have ..which complicates the stop.
Maybe, just maybe, I might slide the weapon over to the unoccupied passenger seat if I didn’t risk making big or furtive moves that were visible to the cop.
Since Hennepin and no other county is being allowed to answer the CCW permit question, I call bs on your claim
The authorities could clear this up but they wont
And CCWs are NOT public record nor should they be In NY state, it was public record. Names were published several years ago, and burglars broke into the houses and stole the weapons. Now you can opt out by signing a form called a public records exemption. Every state has their own little laws.
WRONG! In South Carolina they are issued by the state. No sheriff involved at all! Not all states are the same. Get your facts straight before calling another FReeper out.
