Never been to a Starbucks because I’ve never gotten good recommendations. Lots of folks say the coffee tastes like it has been burnt. I can do that at home for free :)
Seems like they charge prices that are way too high for what you get.
Now, I have another reason not to show up.
There’s a new Starbucks in town, right across the street from Atlanta Bread. The ATL Bread store has been there forever. Be interesting to see what a little competition does.
Prices are consistent with size & complexity.
Want a cheap good Starbucks coffee?
Order a “short bold black”, about $1.75.
Want big fancy custom?
Well duh you’re going to play for it.
Yes, this coffee snob doesn’t like the Pike Place Roast, but most of the “bold” variants are good.
Starbucks if a victim of their own success. They got so big they cannot offer consistent top quality beans. So they go for lesser quality, but ample supplies, of good beans instead of the very narrow volume of the best beans. The over roasting is partly to cover the quality drop, but is also an earmark of Northwest coffee roasting. I’m not a fan, but that is just a matter of tastes.
Local or independent roasters will offer higher quality as a rule. I love this guy’s roasts:

There are others, perhaps near you. The least time shipping is best.
I agree
