You’re right. Detonating a bomb right on the holy sight of Medina and right after prayers, a major line has been crossed.

Maybe instigating lone wolves all over the world to commit attacks was not such a good idea.
The question then becomes, who was responsible for the bombings. A look at the targets tells much. The targets were a Shiite mosque in the city of Qatif, the US consulate in Jeddah, and this major holy site/mosque (Sunni) in Medina. Conclusion from this, is that ISIS was the most likely perpetrator, as they are the enemy of all three groups the targets represent.
With the current Saudi king being, to put it kindly, less than mentally stable, things are definitely more than a little volatile. Keep alert, folks there's obviously more trouble in the wind...
