Even light bird shot will kill in a close in house setting. OO will penetrate walls. I would go with #4 buck (.24”) indoors. Way more power than is needed indoors and less wall penetration.
Personally I keep my 1911 loaded with 230 gr soft points and don’t expect to miss center mass.
Your point is well taken. However, my choice has been Herters Defense Shotshells, 12 ga 2-1/4 #00 Mini-Buckshot Mini-buckshot has less felt recoil than full-size buckshot shells. These short shells can also increase your magazine capacity. These shells also have less wall penetration.
If the distance and angle are right, sure. But if the perp lives some damned liberal jurors might decide that you need to fund his enforced retirement after he gets out of prison.
