Though no prosecutor in Florida would charge here because no jury would convict her for defending herself from three thugs who’d just kicked in her door.

I'm sure several prosecutors would love to try...

After all she could have cowered in place and called 911 / S

The thought of walking into a room and hearing a pump shotgun slide being racked is enough to make anyone head for the nearest door.

If I were only a little more crafty, I would rig my doorbell to play that sound. (I live in a region where it's not strange to hear car horns playing Dixie or Reveille.)

Indeed.

Heck, I saw a guy killed by a single shot of a .22 short.

He was in a bar with a friend of 50 years. They argued about the pool game they were playing and the friend just lost it, pulled out a tiny pistol and shot the guy once, in the heart.

The dead guy was still sitting in his chair, pool cue in hand, looking like he was asleep.

A neighbor might, and who says grandpa isn’t sick in bed?

So an 80-lb. lady should defend herself with quiet hand-to-hand combat or a pea shooter, to avoid collateral damage to innocent citizens? You can make that case, but I'll stick with the bang-splatter machine. :)

On black ops in the late 68s, we carried .22LR chambered handguns with silencers. More than enough to get the job done.

.22 handguns with silencers. The execution tool of choice of the NY Italian mafia. Just one behind the ear.

A .22LR is more than enough gun for anything you might encounter. The uninitiated greatly underestimate the .22LR round. Unless you are shooting from a great distance it will get the job done.

However, for home defense a shotgun is the weapon of choice. You don’t have to be accurate and it can bring down a bear.

But, you will have one hellofa bill for cleaning and repairing all the damage done by a 10 or 12GA.

Nope, our first choice is a .22 revolver loaded with subsonics:

A while lot less damage to the house, a lot less cleaning of blood, guts and body parts, and they won't wake the kids.

If need be either drag them out or carry them out a few hundred yards from the house and send them to meet Christ with a .357 Magnum. Dig a hole and forget it ever happened.

OO will penetrate walls. I would go with #4 buck (.24”) indoors. Way more power than is needed indoors and less wall penetration.

Your point is well taken. However, my choice has been Herter’s Defense Shotshells, 12 ga 2-1/4“ #00 Mini-Buckshot — Mini-buckshot has less felt recoil than full-size buckshot shells. These short shells can also increase your magazine capacity. These shells also have less wall penetration.

Don’t have to be accurate? Really? What do you think the shotgun pattern (in inches) is at 12 feet with an open choke? Have you ever shot a shotgun?

I have a pack of Aguila short slugs. In my Mossberg and Sears (Winchester) pumps the short shells tend to jam.
There is 2 3/4” low recoil Ammo out there. As I often reload 12 gauge I have to look up some low recoil data. I have seen it out there.

I just let my daughter read this...she is laughing and said “Mom did they write that article about you?”

They could have, that is exactly what I would do, expect on the count of three, they would be shot...

Everyone should have a weapon, or two or three or more, and know how to use it!!!

Way To Go Grandma!!!

I like the simplicity and reliability of a revolver.

Nice, but would’ve been nicer with three dead perps.

Some phrases ought to be memorized and rehearsed to sound spontaneous. That one goes along with “I tried to warn him but he just kept coming” and “I wish to speak with my attorney”. On the domestic front some useful auto-responses include “Yes, Dear”, “Why no, those pants look great on you”, and “Looking at what? That girl? I hadn’t noticed.”

“We have a Castle Doctrine statue....”

Same here in Georgia. They come through the door you don’t need a reason.
