I would think that someone would have changed that before mid-century. Even Willie Hitler changed his surname in the late 1940s (But he named one of his sons after his cousin Adolf).

It's their name. Eskenazi is a very common Jewish name that means "German." Ashkenazy is another form of it. Should Vladimir Ashkenazy have changed his name? I think he did pretty well with it.
