HELBY COUNTY, Tenn. -- Four children were killed at a Shelby County Apartment complex early Friday afternoon.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office confirms they took the mother of the children is in custody around 1 p.m.
All of the children are under the age of six and were deceased when deputies arrived.
Sheriff Bill Oldham said, "Our community has suffered an egregious act of evil and tremendous loss today." Oldham went on to say, "One of the most difficult questions in any investigation always is 'why?'"

Susan Smith drowned two sons by pushing them in a car into a lake. But wasn’t there another gal, and supposedly a straight arrow Christian (if a little weird) who drowned her children in a bathtub?
I was living in the Boston area in 1971 and the List case got quite a bit of coverage at that time.

I think her name was Andrea Yates.
I was told by a feminist that Yates’ husband was to blame for the fact that she killed her children.
Oh now I remember that. Notorious case in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, I think before FR even came online. Drugged then drowned the children. And what hit me as so strange is that there was a psychiatric hospital WITH A CHRISTIAN PROGRAM not 5 minutes from where she was — all she had to do is go there and say she was going crazy.
Some thought her husband was pressuring her into the role of the “good wife.” Strange, tragic, and very very sad case. If you didn’t believe the devil existed before you heard of it, you probably would afterwards.

That’s another strange thing, although again we’re talking Illinois which almost never did.
I am starting to believe that in these cases. But if you belong to the Lord, He will protect you from such.
The devil can’t steal your soul, but he can still arrange for the killing of your body (with God’s permission). Martyrdom exists, lest we forget given our country’s relatively long holiday from it.

43 years ago, 6 months after we moved from the city of Chicago, out to the quiet suburbs, the woman about 4 houses down, killed 2 of her 3 kids with a hammer.
not the first time. what was ridiculous about her, were the fake tears and lies while her children were supposedly “missing”. Awful for her husband. She was very cold. Sort of like that woman out somewhere- they made a movie about her, who did or tried to kill her kids, then got pregnant in jail or something. She was interviewed from prison on some talk show.
Yes, she was really in bad shape though, she lost her mind. She had been struggling with several children and post-partum depression, she had hallucinations IIRC. Susan Smith was really just a cold blooded selfish person IMHO.
For some odd reason I never believed her either. She just did not seem truthful to me from the beginning and I was not shocked when the truth came out. Horrified, but not surprised.
