“democracy and freedom were blooming.”

These were Islamic countries with no tradition of democracy. The Quran does not allow for democracy or voting. It only allows for imams. The Quran endorses slavery also, so there is no tradition of freedom either. It seems unlikely that from such soil anything like a western democracy or a free society could grow. Riots in the streets do not make for a potential democratic government beyond what happened in the French revolution. Democracy as in voting on whose head gets chopped off, I suppose. You don’t go from chaos to order just by wishing it so. As it turns out, the existing governments were much better for the people than what the US and other western nation’s interference handed them.
