I’m somewhat surprised that there are any Japanese muslims.

So now I guess politicians and celebrities will boycott Japan, and Coke and Pepsi will pull all product, right?

Right?

Japanese know how to do it. Good for them. All Muslims are questionable.

They don’t get that much in the way of terrorism, do they? At least since they shut down Aum Shinri Kyo (sp?).

I thought Japan didn’t allow any of them in except for a short period of time - and when it was time to leave Tokyo made sure they left.

But at least they’re realistic about the threat.

Exactly what we need to do in this country. If they start feeling intimidated enough, hopefully they will LEAVE the country and go someplace else where they are appreciated.

Sharia and Jihad are unconstitutional, both in Japan and in the US.

Well...this only means it’s now OFFICIAL. It has been going on for a rather long time, I think.

Japan was always a bit suspicious of outsider religions, not many will believe that the % of Japanese who are Christians now is lower than the freaking Tokugawa Period...!!! (think Shogun).

Yeah, there are a lot of marriages in churches and there are people wearing crosses, but mostly that is “playing around”.

After the Aum ShinRiKyo Nerve-Gas Attack on the Tokyo subway system around 1994, public suspicion of weird cults went up about 50,000% and it was already pretty high.

There have been popular email lists making weird claims on all the onerous LAWS against Islam in Japan and they’re false: you can bring Arabic Korans into Japan, distribute them, etc. You can go to mosques, though they are very few. Muslims CAN own homes, etc.

But:

The barriers against them are non-official BUT VERY STRONG.

It would be VERRRRRY hard for them to find a place to rent, short of working for a large and influential company, foundation, etc. It would be nearly impossible to get a credit card or insurance. The cops would be watching you a lot, would sometimes maybe be interviewing your neighbors, etc.

If for some weird reason you owned a company people would be a little suspicious of your product. People wouldn’t invite you out, probably. They would probably avoid you, be afraid of you and ask you very many stupid/annoying questions.

These “new” measures don’t surprise me, but I strongly doubt they have just started them.

They have been going on, though more secretly, since just after 9/11, I imagine.
