The man who played the 2,000 Year-Old Man has gotten one year closer: comedy legend Mel Brooks is 90 today.
Born Melvin James Kaminsky in Brooklyn, NY, Brooks started as a writer on Your Show of Shows. Brooks and another comedy icon, Carl Reiner first met in 1950. They delighted audiences and inspired a generation of comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and others with the improvised sketch about a really old man who has seen it all, as well as other now-famous bits.

It’s good to be the king
A true talent!
...I didn’t get a “harrumph” out of that guy!
You probably know this...but he’s also a composer, right?
Reminds me that there was a time when comedy was not focused on sex, and was not so overtly political and liberal.
I swear, all these people nowadays tell jokes about sex, and push liberalism. You have to be liberal to think the jokes are funny. And you have to tolerate jokes about sex.
Anyway, happy birthday Mel. You came along in a different era, a different time.
High anxiety whenever you’re near -
High anxiety - it’s you that I fear.
My heart’s afraid to fly - it’s crashed before ...
But then you take my hand;
My heart starts to soar once more.
High anxiety ... it’s always the same;
High anxiety ... it’s you that I blame.
It’s very clear to me I’ve got to give in.
High anxiety: you win.
His son wrote the awesome novel World War Z which was turned into sub par vehicle for Brad Pitt.
Mel Brooks’ biggest accomplishment: GET SMART
Happy birthday, Mel. Thanks a bunch for all of the laughs.
I still go around saying, “It’s good to be the King” when I see something particularly luxurious or expensive. Also, if I see American Indians on some show, I almost expect them to break out in Yiddish. Finally, every time we have baked beans, I cannot help but think of that scene in “Blazing Saddles.”
Thank you, G-d, for having given us Melvin James Kaminsky, to make us enjoy life and laugh at even the worst of times.
A true Great!!! Although I am still waiting for History of the World Part II, Jews in Space, and Space Balls II: The Search for More Money!
“Hast du sehen in deine leben? Dey’re darker than us! Whoop!”

I see that your Schwartz is as big as mine!
Battle of the Bulge veteran
Mel Brooks is a WW II vet, and he saw action at the Battle of the Bulge. When asked about that battle, Mel said that it was really noisy and he could hardly get any reading done.
Gotta love Mel!
