Agree with this, but Iceland's success also comes from the fact that developing their national soccer team is a national priority for them, and they concentrate a lot of effort on it. It's a matter of huge national pride for them. I love soccer, but never played growing up, and it is not the destination sport for the best overall athletes in the US. There are like a ton of reasons for this, including the fact that you can play professionally in the MLS and earn $40-50,000/year.
