Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather on Sunday had some words of advice — and caution — for journalists covering presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Rather criticized cable news networks’ wall-to-wall coverage of the real estate mogul and warned that they may have been “complicit” in Trump’s rise to the top of the GOP field.
“What I worry about is, in a way, the media is a political partner, a business partner of Donald Trump,” Rather said on CNN’s “Reliable Sources.”

Today I need to apologize to Rather re W Bush’s National Guard exposé. His documents were truly fake so he deserved firing. But they were truly accurate as well. I just today got to the chapter in “The Family of Secrets,” an amazingly deep, well researched book into the Bush cabal, where it is proven by interview and real documentation that Bush did not properly serve or finish his six years in the National Guard. Not even close.
Media has covered Trump non-stop in the singular hope that he will step on his [bleep] on live TV and they can destroy him by repeating his hoped for blunder over and over. He has not obliged them, so then they make [bleep] up and twist his words to fit their agenda any way they can. They are not covering him because they want him to succeed, that’s for certain.
