Scotland Seeks Independence Again After U.K. 'Brexit' Vote
nbcnews.com ^ | June 24, 2016

Scotland's government began moves Friday to hold a new referendum on independence from the U.K. after the "Brexit" vote, saying it faced being taken out of the European Union against its will.

Scots voted by 62 percent to 38 percent to remain in the EU, according to Friday's results, in contrast to the overall U.K.-wide result of 52 percent to 48 percent in favor of quitting the bloc.

A majority of voters in Northern Ireland also voted to remain in the EU, suggesting the U.K. faces internal constitutional upheaval as well as a contentious divorce from Brussels.

Now that would be amazing - Ireland whole once again.

I just got back form Dublin, Galway, Country Offlay and Adare. We can all hope after 400 years of persecution, murder, theft and rape and exactly 100 years since the revolution the scourge of Britain be out of Ireland. One country, one culture, ONE IRELAND. I'm a proud supporter of Sinn Fein but was never in agreement with the militant sides IRA tactics or methods. Going terrorists out of frustration turned the world against the plight of my Irish brothers in NI. Terry Adams sold them out and now the populace has neither the will nor the stomach to fight anymore.

Hopefully a referendum to allow reunification will happen and our brothers in Belfast and Derry can once again be part of a united, prosperous and peaceful Ireland. Amháin Ireland

If Scotland wants to learn the hard way, then I wish them luck.

It’s telling though that founding states like France and Belgium want out.

This would force Southern Britain (the rump nation of Britain after a Scot exit) to put up a wall on it's northern border with Scotland, demand Visa controlled travel and the entry/exit of all commercial goods via designated ports of entry.

There could be onerous inspections, fees and various compliance rules in place.

And all trade that Scotland has with the EU could be forced through their own sea ports vs The Tunnel.

Nay, I say once Scots understand the practical application of their silly dream they'll relent.

Maybe the English can get Donald Trump to build the wall after he finishes the wall with Mexico.

England and Wales will be much better off without Scotland. Northern Ireland is a drain as well. They should be told to either become independent or merge with the Republic of Ireland.

Ireland will never join the UK/Commonwealth; in fact, the European Union is better designed for small countries like Ireland (who would be unable to compete globally alone) than the large countries like the UK. The UK was between two worlds (Europe and the empire/commonwealth/Anglosphere), and their refusal to adopt the Euro indicates they knew this time might come.

Ireland itself was not part of this vote; the six counties held by England in the north were. Ireland won’t be leaving the EU any time soon...

Agree. Scotland should be allowed to go. As should Ireland be reunited. Its demographics favor it, the six counties are apparently a drain on the treasury, and they voted to stay in the EU the republic is in.

I don’t follow Scot-to-Brit issues closely. You seem to imply Scotland is a drain on the UK, correct? Why are they?

“Confused about this. Didn’t the SNP agree that the vote already taken would be the last, and they wouldn’t keep demanding another vote until it went their way?”

That was last week. This week they want to protect their lip-clamp on the EU teat. This is probably good news. Let them vote to leave the UK just in time for the EU to collapse.

Hadrian’s wall can be rebuilt and the UK will be rid of them.

The good news keeps rolling in. If they have the guts to leave the UK this time, that will push the remaining parts of the country significantly to the right. It will be great for the English especially. Their hands are often hampered by the left-wing Scots. England, Wales, and if it stays Northern Ireland will be in a decidedly stronger position to save themselves without Marxist-lite Scotland. (The Scots will probably also move to the right at least somewhat too because I believe that some of their left-wing politics is inspired by wanting to oppose English political positions.)

Beyond that though I generally support the independence of nations that want it and that want to preserve their own ways of doing things, even if they’re mostly lefties like the Scots and Catalans. I was very disappointed in the Scots when they didn’t vote for their independence last time. They just weren’t brave enough to break free from the English handouts and guidance. The EU is probably going down anyway eventually, but if the Scots desperately want to give their sovereignty over to the EU, then I think that’s their right, just as it’s the right of the English and Welsh to ditch the EU and regain control of their own destinies.

Scotland will most likely try a “reverse Denmark”. Denmark is in actuality three countries- Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Of the three, only Denmark is in the EU. Scotland would join the EU, while England and Wales would not. Northern Ireland is a question mark.

The globalists in Scotland are just mad because the UK is leaving. It’s punishment. Whether the people in Scotland and N IR vote to leave the UK is another thing.

Exactly. They declare independence from GB, and they become the next Venezuela — unless they can suck the EU teat until it runs dry. THEN, they become the next Venezuela.

Maybe IR should raise their corporate tax rate if they can’t pay their bills.
