Free trade among sovereign European nations makes sense. Allowing a bunch of unelected foreigners to overrule your laws and traditions and control your borders doesn’t. It’s dawn and wake up alarms are ringing across Europe.
Short the Euro.
Yep, the EU "leaders" could have avoided the possibility completely by limiting themselves to the specific and limited functions under which they were formed.
But bureaucrats can't avoid bossy mission creep nor do they even have the common sense to notice when their bossiness is growing intolerable because of the bubble in which they live.
I don’t like that term “free trade.” Everybody has their own definition. Free trade wasn’t supposed to mean third world countries get to cheat and use slave labor and we shut up. That was never the deal.
The EURO should be eliminated with a return to national currencies. Greece is a prime example. They cannot devalue their currency to help themselves get out of their economic doldrums. The Euro waits them down like an anchor.
If they had simply left it as the “Common Market”, which the UK voted to join, then most of Europe would be relatively booming now.
But, politicians being politicians, the EU kept on voting to expand it's own power and no one stopped them. This was helped by the fact that almost all of the candidates for the MEP positions were pro-Europe.
My reaction to the morning's headlines was,
Thank you, British cousins, for having the nerve.
