If American history is applied the EU - the European Union will raise an army and 'force' Britian to stay in the Union. However, the EU most likely won't have an 'Abraham Lincoln' sworn in in the next few months who will replace their current 'James Buchanan' as the Commission President...re: South Carolina - December 20, 1860.

Another big loser in this Brexit thing is the commmie piggies down at the U.N. Now, it’s America’s turn to tell those dinosaurs to get lost. National sovereignty must be restored.

EU has no backbone, no ability to demand anyone stay. They are instead being overwhelmed by invading hordes of Islamic people, including terrorists, that will doom them if not reversed. Wonder if any other countries might now be emboldened to reject the EU?

> Obama’s advice may have pushed some voters to “leave.” In April, he warned British voters they would be at the “back of the queue” in trade with the U.S. if they left the EU.

Anything O wants his subjects to do is always for his own selfish interests or the leftists therefore the correct answer is to always do the opposite.

DU is having a little meltdown over the EU vote today. Sad day for the one-world socialists.

I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see the global elites allowing this to happen so easily. I don’t know if the courts over there can stop it, or if the British government is truly bound by this vote.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

I’m proud of the UK. I look forward to America’s future.

I hadn’t followed the issues that contributed to UK’s vote. But analysis on BBC last night often discussed their immigration issue and somehow it seems this was a big factor in the voting.

I would appreciate a knowledgeable FReeper explaining what power the EU held over the member nations when it came to immigration to each independent country. Why was immigration a motivating policy in the vote to leave the EU?

Thanks in advance.

“Back of the queue” my a$$. As if he controls something as massive and amorphous as our international trade relationships. With a Pound Sterling dropping to thirty year lows vs. our Dollar there are a lot of British goods that are suddenly more affordable. That’s how this works. And as long as we’re on the subject of his pathologic hubris, Obama has as much influence over our trade as CO2 has over the Earth’s climate, i.e. NONE.

WRONG comparison — for all its over-reaching the EU is NOT a sovereign nation and has no possible right to compel members to remain — Article 50 of the Lisbon treaty explicitly details the procedure for a member state to withdraw from the EU:

http://www.lisbon-treaty.org/wcm/the-lisbon-treaty/treaty-on-European-union-and-comments/title-6-final-provisions/137-article-50.html

Article 50

1. Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

2. A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention. In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.

3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period.

4. For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.

A qualified majority shall be defined in accordance with Article 238(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.

I expect the EU overlords in Brussels will take nasty actions against Brit citizens. Currency restrictions, travel hassles, trade barriers, etc..
