I am not really good on the history of the Falklands but were they ever under the sovereignty of Argentina?

If Argentina was serious they’d be sending settlers and then demand a vote.
Worked for Kosovo.

Other than the Spanish-American War, I can’t think of another war that was executed flawlessly and reasserted dominance than the 1982 Falkland Islands War.

The settlers would probably side with the locals. The Falkland Islands are very clean, beautiful, and well run.
Kind of like California used to be.

The Argentinians would argue they had sovereignty in the late 1820s up until 1833. Their position has some slight merit, but not much of one.

Obama will offer to help.... Argentina.

Not for a single day ever. They were Spanish prior to British and uninhabited before that.

No.
They tried to claim them by claiming the right to islands that formerly belonged to Spain.
However they never managed to settle the islands although they tried a couple of times.
It is something like france trying to claim North Carolina on the basis that they had a colony there once upon a time.

Fernandez-Kirchner left Argentina and absolute mess. A failed state. She rattled sabers over the Falklands but knew better than try and re-take them. And now one of Argentina’s biggest backers, Chavez, is dead and Venezuela is a failed state, I don’t think Macri will waste time/resources trying to invade Falklands. He seemed quite promising during recent 60 Minutes interview.

" ....... but were they ever under the sovereignty of Argentina? My foggy memory thinks the Malvinas were claimed by the British, French, Spanish and even the Germans. Argentina tried to take the island in the early 1800's and the Brits have ruled since then. Shoot, Freepers should stake a claim for a place to escape to in case HRC wins.

Translation...Argentina's leaders want to divert attention from how horrible things are domestically.

After they surrendered, I was pulled up next to a car flying an Argentine flag. I popped in my tape of Rule Britannia and played it as loud as I dared.
