Is it the UK total that counts?

Or is it the individual countries (England, Scotland, Wales, No. Ireland?)

Can Scotland remain in the EU, but England exit?

I would imagine the British Commonwealth. That doesn’t include the Republic of Ireland.....but Northern Ireland.

It’s the overall count that matters in this case.

The individual nations of the UK could theoretically wind up going in different directions in Europe but not as a direct result of this referendum but only after future referendums that would break up the UK).

Yes, it is the UK total that counts. Scotland voted last year in Scottish independence and voted to stay in the UK. Is has been speculated that if the UK votes to leave, that Scotland would want to vote again on the independence question.
