Gerry and the Pacemakers were a tight band with a handful of hits.

IIRC, they were from Liverpool and close to the Beatles.

Indeed, Lennon/McCartney wrote a couple of their songs. They were limited to Gerry’s voice.

That was the magic of the Beatles: they had four individual sounding voices, but ALSO had a fifth, completely different sounding harmony. Truly amazing. Even allowing that Ringo was barely a singer, you just don’t see many bands where you have that many leads. It makes for tremendous song/sound variation.
