Most people don't even want a diesel vehicle due to fuel cost and the fact they prefer a standard gasoline engine. Unfortunately, you're correct. Most people are indeed ignorant and unable to do math.

Lets see. My diesel got 45 mpg on the highway.
Fuel is at most 30% more expensive although right now it’s almost the same (here the price generally 2.19 for reg or diesel).
AND the engine is good for 200k.
