Lottery tickets are a smarter play. And I might add: they are easier to carry and don’t cause any alarm at customs.

Agree 1000%, I would never accept “premium jewelry” from a guy, because it would show how bad he was with money. I would make it clear I felt this way before he bought anything in the first place. Jewelry is fine, as long as it is cheap, if you lose it, no big deal. I have even made my own using the part you can get a jo-anne fabrics!
